How to Access Services

APPOINTMENTS

We operate an appointment only system for doctors and nurses.  Appointments can be made by phoning or calling at the surgeries during opening hours. For urgent or on-the-day requests, your call will be triaged by a practice GP and you will be offered at appointment appropriate to the outcome of the triage. You may consult any of the doctors, ANP or practice nurse. You may express a preference for a particular doctor and we will try to accommodate you, however an appointment to see a specific doctor may require more notice. We suggest that, if possible, you try to see the same doctor for follow-up appointments in any particular episode of illness – but please do not wait if your problem is painful or worrying. If your own doctor is busy, see one of the other GP’s who can then pass you back to your own doctor later.  Appointments are for 15 minutes. We also offer telephone appointments.

We offer an Extended Hours service which offers patients early evening and morning appointments. You can see more details by clicking here.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

If you receive repeat prescriptions you should give 48 hours notice (excluding weekends) when needing a renewal. Please telephone after 10am or bring your Repeat Prescription slip to the Surgery.

You can order your repeat medication online using EMIS Patient Access – ask at reception for more details.

Unless stated otherwise, repeat prescriptions will automatically be sent to Davidson’s Chemist in Newburgh for collection 48 hours later.

HOME VISITS

If possible please try to telephone before 10am. A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange  a hospital attendance. House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

TELEPHONE ADVICE

We offer pre-bookable Telephone Consultation appointments for ailments that do not require a physical examination. The receptionist will advise you if this is appropriate if you are unsure.

TEST RESULTS

The Practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only release test results to the person to whom they relate. In certain circumstances it may be essential for us to give test results to another person but we can only do this if the patient has given prior permission for the release of the results or they are not capable of understanding the results.  Please telephone the surgery after 11.00am for test results.

OUT OF HOURS COVER

In serious emergencies dial 999 for an ambulance. To contact NHS 24 phone 111.  The practice is closed between 6pm and 8am Monday to Friday and at the weekend (from 6pm on Friday to 8am on Monday).  All calls to NHS 24 are confidential and may be recorded. Should you require to be seen at a centre, you may request to be seen in Perth instead of St Andrews.

IN HOURS URGENT CARE

Urgent care means ‘when you suddenly become unwell and need to see a healthcare professional the same day but is not an emergency’. This includes urgent care for both mental and physical health.

This new process for getting the medical help you need is part of a new national initiative across all NHS Boards in Scotland. If you think you need to visit the Accident and Emergency department but it is not life-threatening, there is a new way to do that. You will need to call 111 first.
